Set up your email in Apple Mail

In this guide, we’ll explain step by step how to set up your email account in Apple Mail.

How to set up an email address in Apple Mail

  1. Start Apple Mail and click Mail in the top-left corner, then select Settings.
  2. In the next screen, click the Accounts tab and then click the plus (+) icon in the bottom-left corner.
  3. Enter your email address and click Continue.
  4. Enter or update your details with your name — this name will be used as the sender name in your emails — your Soverin email address, and your password. Then click Sign In.
  5. You will see a message stating that verification failed. This happens because not all settings have been entered correctly yet. Complete or change the settings to:

    Account Type: IMAP
    Incoming Mail Server: imap.soverin.net
    Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.soverin.net

    Then click Sign In again.

  6. In addition to Mail, you can also select Notes to use with this email address. Then click Done.

Your email address has now been added to Apple Mail.

Important Additional Steps

Apple Mail automatically fills in the port settings, but these are not always correct. That’s why it is important to immediately check all settings after adding your email address.

Follow these steps:

  1. In Apple Mail, go to Mail > Settings.
  2. Click Accounts, then select your newly created mailbox from the list on the left, and click Server Settings.
  3. Disable the option Automatically manage connection settings for both the incoming and outgoing mail settings.
  4. Make sure the settings match those shown in the screenshot below and click Save.
